NKOTB - (1999 - Ongoing)
video art
NKOTB (New Kids On The Block) started in 1998–99, the project constructs a longitudinal portrait of New York through the lives of teenagers navigating its streets, subcultures, and informal social spaces. Returning to some of these individuals decades later, it examines how personal histories and urban transformation register in one another: their lives become a way of reading the city, while the city shapes their trajectories.
VHS and MiniDV recur across the periods of documentation, complicating the image’s function as a marker of historical time. As people and places change, the continuity of the recording formats brings past and present into visual proximity, creating a dialogue between biography, urban memory, and the material life of the moving image.
